after it's been raining? My boyfriend and I went for a hike after it rained at El Moro Canyon (it's in Laguna Beach, CA). When we parked there were others on the trail and when we got up to the gate there was an orange snow fence that was taken down and rolled up on the side, there were also cones that had been moved. We thought it was fine to hike so we went it.

When we were coming out we saw a ranger putting the fence up with zip ties, she started yelling at us and telling us we weren't allowed to be on the trail after it rained. She probably assumed we were the ones responsible for taking down the gate.

Well, she gave us citations for hiking on a closed trail (is that trespassing?) i can't seam to find the civil code anywhere on line. Any way, the ticket is $255.00 -Really?!

Does anyone know what my options are at this point. I'm planning on going back to the scene of the "crime?" and re-staging a photo of what I saw and fighting it in court; but I feel like the judge is going to have heard all this before... I mean, it's the Newport Beach Court house, I don't have a fancy lawyer, i do not feel like this is going to be very promising.

If I'm still found guilty and need to pay this fine, can I request community service? I'd much rather spend a Saturday or two cleaning up the beach then pay this ridiculous fine!
