way to a premiership? Or even gone close? (eg Runners Up)

Only clubs that weren't already winning premierships at the time.

OK - so - by "aging" I guess approaching or over 30 years old, a veteran and already established as a good to great player. And by "leading the way", I mean being a real stand out player or "captain fantastic".

I know, say, Ottens and Mooney came to Geelong with a bit of age but they weren't already 'greats'. Guys like Cousins and Judd haven't exactly set the world on fire ... not slagging at them, just they haven't gone close to standing on a podium in September.

I'm seriously wondering whether it's ever been a very successful strategy.
Ah you got me Joffa - but ... as a player?
