Harry Potter Loses #1 Spot

Adam Sandlers new comedy has entered the USA film chart at number 1, pushing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix down to 2nd place.
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry took $34.9M compared to Harry Potters $32.2M
Blimey, I remember a time when a HP film stayed at number one for weeks

I think it's just that it's such a competitive summer. With all the massive movies coming out nothing will stay top for more than a couple of weeks. It did huge business in it's first week and it's only about 2 million behind the Sandler film (which looks crap btw). Also by now people will have decided if they like Potter or not, a lot don't, so a fair chunk of cinema audiences have been alienated.

Well that's a surprise. I read a mid-week report on IMDB and they said both that film and 'Hairspray' were trailing behind Potter by a decent margin. I guess it did well at the weekend.

.....or perhaps the only people going to see HP are the fans, but there is also the fact that several years have passed and some of those kiRAB can go without parents to see it.

I want to know whose idea it was to release the film and book at the same time...surely they could've chosen to release the film at a slightly different time? Clearly attention was always going to go towarRAB the book...:o

Well I think HP will come back to the top eventually, there's people like me who are seeing the Simpsons Movie this week, but intend to have a second viewing of Order of the Phoenix next week.

Its very unusual for a Harry Potter film to only last one week at number one in the North American Box Office.
Do you think the poor reviews have put people off or do the die hard fans that went in the first week now prefer other films, rather than seeing it a 2nd or 3rd time and can't be bothered?
It could drop to 3rd place in its 3rd week due to the release of the Simpsons movie!

I think it will go back up because apparently its due to the hysteria over the last book overshadowing the film. Actually it probably won't because by next week when fans have read the book, people who just like the movies will have already seen it so next weeks total viewings will be lower than what they would be if the book was released at a different time. Also as the last book was the last ever harry potter book, people are gonna feel like "thats it" and they're not gonna want to watch a movie based on a book way back in the series.
