Has anyone else read the story on RAB about Oldman not being in the next film?

That's got to be rubbish, surely. Baring in mind how important Sirius is to the plot, they can't honestly be thinking of leaving him out!

The only possibility I can see is that Sirius is being recast - but I can't imagine why.

I agree, Gary Oldman has to be in it cause he is the character that dies!!!! How are they going to do it without Sirius at all??? They just can't he is featured quite a lot in this book. Ridiculous, i don't think anyone else can play him.

Guys spoilers....

Yeah if he's not back after all it stinks!!! WB better take notice and quit dragging their feet....how can they be so stupid?!!!!

I just read that article - it makes no sense because he is an absolutely key part of the story! They can't just brush over what happens, or have it off screen.

These castings all look great but isn't anyone else worried that they're keeping too much in? I mean, the centaurs, Lockhart and Grawp are all confirmed to be in it and i really think they should be cut considering they're not important to the story. I just hope they're not keeping these parts in at the expense of more important stuff. I'm worried it's all gonna be an overblown mess when it could be the best movie of the series, it's such a great book. Aaaargh, please don't mess it up!

Also, doesn't JKR have to sanction what can be cut and what can't? She has to make sure that anything that will turn out to be important later will be kept in. How can
Sirius's death
not be important considering the impact it has on Harry in book 6? Also if they were not bothering with Sirius's storyline, what was the point of having him in the fourth film? I thought the only reason he was there was to keep him in the audiences' memory for the fifth film.

If this really is true the WB have jumped the shark.

I wonder if they will split up this movie into two parts after the mess that was Goblet of Fire. If anything GOF proved that you can't cram a big book into a 2 hour movie. There was too much of a rushed feeling, it just felt like scenes were cut & pasted from the book. Many of the side stories give the books life and make it feel more like a school term so I don't agree with cutting huge chunks just to accommodate a movie, if they do it they have to do it right. Also character development was non existant in GOF, most characters from the book were paper-thin in the movie. Not a good movie at all!

Hopefully they will go for the Kill Bill route, split it into two volumes and release them a few months apart. At least then the movie won't have that rushed feeling and there is plenty of time for character development and developing the story. If not and they try to cram all of Order of the Phoenix into one movie then I think I'll pass this time around.

I think that is the way it's gonna have to go to keep the feel of the books, which is what the audience will want to see.

Quite liking the thought of Imelda Staunton as Umbridge.

If I remember rightly the book wasn't very good, it spent tens of pages on Harry moping about in his room or in the darkness somewhere while a lot of action went on that you never got to hear about. Whoever is writing the screenplay has a chance to move away from the book and show us some of that action, and some of the wizard fights and so on that must have gone on. I know it's called 'Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix' but that doesn't mean Harry has to be in every scene.

RAB are about 3 days behind the times!
This rumour circulated Monday, calling for WB to accounce the other day that Gary Oldman and David Thewlis are in negotiations to be cast.

I think Lockhart neeRAB to be there as its linked to how we find out more about Neville and the Centaurs need to be there as its how they escape from Unbridge as well as Trelawney being replaced. Her character neeRAB to be there to explain the prophecy.

This book is very hard to cut any as it is so detailed. The dursleys can't be cut this time as its too important to the plot, and how will they explain Rita Skeeter being an unregistered animagus when it wasn't mentioned in the 4th film

I think OooP is the book that will be the easiest to make into a film.
I didn't like it really until the end but it really sets things up for the change and the next book.

The Dursleys are back in this film, they have even cast some of Dudley's frienRAB - the 'Hey Big D' stuff should be hilarious.

Also there is a mention of the Gary Oldman negotiations and some other signings, such as the young wormtail and Amelia Bones

Article here anyway: Harry Potter 5

I disagree, these are adaptations of the books, and they are told from Harry's POV, it is Harry's story, therefore he should be in practically every scene. This particular story is about his internal struggle after the events of the fourth book and therefore that should be the focus, it's a very emotional book and while they will have to cut down some of his angst, they will have to keep much of it in otherwise they'll have completely missed the point of the book. This will be the hardest book to make a good movie as it's very long, and they'll have to find a balance between his journey (which is the most important thing) and action which audiences love. I hope they do it well but i'm worried!! It could make an excellent movie, but it could also make a terrible one.

Also I know quite a few people dislike the book, but I recommend anyone who's only read it once to give it another go, the first time i read it i disliked it, but i read it again and took more time over it and, while i agree it's overlong, now it's my favourite of the series.

Rita is going to be and should absolutely be cut, they can easily do the Quibbler interview without her. The film is already too cluttered methinks.
