harley dunlop 402's

+1 on the E3's. I've got the 160 on the rear and have nothing but good things to say about it; handles anything the road throws at it without flinching. As soon as I'm ready for a front an E3 will go there also
 
I'm running 880's with some distance for the first time tomorrow in a charity run. I will give you an update...but so far back and forth to work, they make the bike feel totally different....I like it!!
 
Another +1 for the E3. My first two D402 rears managed 10k each, but my first E3 lasted 20k. I won't guarantee double your mileage, but that's my experience. What's more handling is better wet or dry and groove-tracking is greatly reduced.
 
loved my e3's had a 1000 miles on them and picked up a nail in the rear ,dealer replaced tire under waranty,but not a e3 great ride differance and handling
 
There's nothing "wrong" with a Dunlop D-402.... fine tire... but I doubt HD designed the bikes "around that tire"
more likey (as noted) Dunlop was the "low bidder" and they pay MOCO for the right to press Harley-Davidson onto each tire

Dunlop Elite-3 has MY vote, although I did like the grip/feel of the Metzler M880 marathons. Lots of other brands out there, Michelin, Pirelli, Contential etc...

Having the LOGO is important to some....... having white walls is inportant to some..... it's all about floating YOUR boat
 
Just bought both front and rear 402s, got a great deal on them. I haven't been as lucky with the mileage as mine seem to average about 10K before needing replacing. I don't run hard or do burnouts either.

I was told that the 402s are the only whitewall tire approved by HD. I would have put Michelin Commanders on but they are not available with the slim WW. I'm not into balckwalls on my Ultra.

My buddy is the parts manager where I get my stuff and said the E3s slim WW has not yet been approved because of some testing HD does. I know much of what the MOCO does is for the good of the company, so he and I argue quite a bit.
 
I've been running avon venoms, IMO the avons are alot better handling tire compared to the stock 402's. I may try the E3's next. When buying other than stock tires you have got to make sure the load rating is right for touring bikes.
