I was riding my HD Sportster this weekend and pulled up next to a guy that was as enthusiastic about his Harley as I am. I mean, this guy had Harley everything. He had the matching jacket, chaps, bandanna, glasses, etc... He looked totally awesome and like Harley riders should look like. He was about 45-50 years old and he was riding with his wife. I really admired both of them and how into Harley they are. They both had those totally cool microphones on their helmets that you can talk to one another to discuss safety issues, road conditions, which cappuccino bar you should stop at, you get the picture.

Anyway, I pulled up next to them and they were blasting the new Brittney Spears album over their speakers! I couldn’t believe it! I gave him a hard time before the light changed and he said it was on the radio and not a CD.

Does anyone know if there are any HD approved radio stations that HD riders should be listening to? I don’t think Brittney really represents the HD lifestyle. Something a little more hardcore would be better like the Dave Matthews Band or Coldplay really fits what motorcycles are all about.

What do you think?

I don't know that by me dropping my bum on any one motorcycle brands seat says I have to then abandon my other interest, in this case music.

No the Spears bird is not my sort of entertainer but I also accept that a lot of the stuff I enjoy is not to the liking of others. I say. Who cares. I don't listen to please them. I listen to what pleases me.

This married couples attitude towards Harleys is right on the money. Its a shame that Britney was playing on their radio, but in their defense, Britney's latest album is pretty solid - I listen to it all the time while riding. I haven't heard of any dedicated HD riding stations, and I'd think Harley's wonderful marketing department would have made it happen long ago if they thought it would bring happiness to their loyal public. Too bad really - I mean, I was listening to Peaches and Herb the other day and I was thinking to myself how it was the perfect music that complemented my road king and how great I look on it with all my HD riding gear. I hope HD someday has their own radio station on satellite, but if they do, I'd want to make sure they had separate stations for real HD riders and then maybe another one for the sissies that ride Sportsters. I wouldn't want to be associated with any poser that rides a Sportster, and they certainly don't deserve the same degree of HD loyalty that those of us who ride real bikes have earned. Perhaps they can start coding the bikes with an electronic chip that prohibits Sportster riders from hearing an official HD radio station.

Man, I love Brittney Spears, cappuccino too! I like my cappuccino with a whisper of cinnamon on top of the whipped cream.

I usually tune in to the new all Harley station on my Sirius Satellite Radio System. They have Brittney Spears two-fer Tuesdays!

She'd look so hot on the back of my new 883 Sporty and she's very knowledgeable on safety issues too so we'd definitely have plenty to talk about on our cool microphones.

I disagree about Dave Matthews and Coldplay though. They are way too hard core for the motorcycle crowd.

Take a deep breath. I have riden Harleys for thirty years, logged over 150,000 miles on my Harleys and used to be in the H-D business. Take my word for it: "Harley-this and Harley-that" is a marketing rip-off. H-D marks up their stuff twice what it should be and laughs at those guys all the way to the bank. The whole "Harley Mistique" is a rip-off. I love riding a H-D bike but I avoid-like-the-plague the H-D sanctioned events and I do my own thing on my bike. Just remember, the execs at H-D are no different than the execs on Wall Street. And their customers are no less the suckers. When someone drinks the H-D Kool-Aid, the execs in Milwaukee laugh out loud. Sorry to burst your bubble but I've been there, I know them and I know what I am talking about.

You're just the sucker HD is looking for. Keep going to the dealer and see if there is any new apparel, or add-ons with the HD logo to put on your bike. They make more on accessories and motor clothes than they do on their bikes.

Get the bike, pay for the name, if you must, and then look for after-market acdessories and clothing. You and your bike will look just as good, and you'll have a few bucks in your pocket to enjoy while riding.
