I started working in a shop, about 30 years ago. I was uncrating and setting up bikes. installing accessories and keeping the shop clean. The dealership paid for all my PHD training and kept me up to date on the new technology as it came out.The training wasn't free but,it cost me less then going to MMI on my own. I would suggest you try to get a job in a dealer before you invest money in a school. This business isn't anything like Discovery channel makes it out to be.very few motorcycle techs get paid well, and in most parts of the country it is seasonal.Owning you own shop isn't all it's cracked up to be either . The hours are long and the pay is poor. You rarely ride your own bike, You really need to talk to some local techs, and see what they are making,You will be shocked! MMI is a good school,But it is not always necessary,Talk to the service manager at your local Dealer, maybe He'll start you as ab porter or a wash person, but you'll get in the door and see if it is really what you want to do.
