today rogers has offically changed their upgrading program to every 24months if you are already a smartphone customer but if you have a regular phone its still every 12months i think this is a garbage move why should the customers who pay more per month have to wait longer?

That's not true, I work for rogers and upgraded a few customers to new blackberry models and they only had their current smartphone for over a year. Upgrades with Rogers Wireless are based on the revinue you spend on the wireless portion on your bill. All customers are eligable after one year to upgrage, wheather it be to a standard phone or smart phone. No change has been made Rogers today on upgrading smart phones and that is a fact.

im sorry but you are wrong and im 100% sure on the change considering i too work for rogers and i also went ahead and called customer service asking for myself which in return i was also told im not eligble customers going from a regular phoen to a regular phone its still 12months if customers go from a regulr phoen to a smartphone it will change to 24months and here where it gets fishy if they decide they no longer want a data plan phone apprentlyin 12months they are able to get a regular phone but from smartphone to smartphone its not 24months if you checked your salescentral you would have seen this change today im hoping ranx will either reply to this or reply to me so i can confirm

You da man MackDaddy! 2-3 yrs for upgrade.

VZW's newest contract is not as bad, but it's worse than before.
We have 4 VZW phones, mine is the only BB.
They've had impeccable support, service and coverage areas.
I would like to go with the Bold, but that's ATT and I won't switch carriers.
April 17th I'm going to try the Storm.
(crossed fingers behind my back)

Hey Cobra*, you really should go and try out a Storm first, like at one of their local stores. I wanted one so bad, i paid full price, upgraded, and sent it back two days later for a Curve. The whole "touch screen" phenomenon, in my opinion, is way too new and way too glitchy. It's extremely difficult to try and type more than a few words, depending on how you hold it, it'll switch sideways on you. Just a lot of "getting used to". I'm 43, maybe it's just for younger people, again just MY opinion, but do try and find a way to try it out first.
Good Luck!

Thanks Joey.
All the ones that I tried are security tethered
Makes it pretty hard to judge the real feel of the Storm.
And none of them have the latest software either.
I'm pretty sure that I will like the touch screen, but the biggest draw for me is the screen real estate.
I'm 50 (cough). My gal says I'm 2, so I should fit somewhere in between?!
I still have a few weeks to decide.
Bold would be sweet, but I won't leave Verizon.

I think this is horrible move for Rogers. The sad thing is I just signed a three year deal on Feb 28th, so I got a long time to wait to do an upgrade to a new device now. Rogers smartphone users pay more then regular voice only users, so to limit us voice & data clients. I think that would be more of a deterant for a voice only client to switch to a data plan because then they loose the 1yr upgrade option.
I was reading more about this on BGR:
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/03/18/rogers-changes-minimum-hup-length-from-12-to-24-months-for-smartphone-users/

In my personal opinion, Rogers should really re-evaluate their HUP. Instead of making it by date, it really should be based on the revenue generated; reward those that spend a lot of money with the company and those that are loyal clients.
