I had a fusion L4,L5, S1 in Feb of 07 and woke up almost immediately with pain on my lower right side and right butt cheek, along with tailboane pain. I have a very physical job and I do well with a little aleve sometimes. I have a high tolerance for pain. However, trying to sleep at night is very hard.
I have to hold on to the head board to turn and although the spasms are not as bad as in the hospital (yes, I think I cleared the whole unit with my screams) the pain is excrutiating. I just can't tolerate muscle relaxers or pain killers. I told my Dr. about this pain at every follow up visit until finally at my year checkup, he said it was the hardware that was causing the pain and he could remove it if I wanted.
He never mentioned his before the surgery. I wonder if the hardware removal would give relief. Also, does anyone ever hurt when they cough or sneeze? Ouch, I hate allergy season!
