Hard tender lump on my head?!

I have had a very hard, tender lump on my head for 3 days. It is on the left side, directly above the occipital area. It is quite sore and extremely tender to the touch - it feels like it is bruised. Thelump would be about one inch in diameter, and slightly raised.
I am not unwell at all, so I am not sure if it would be a swollen lymph node due to infection?
It is rock hard, and just feels like bone, except sore!

I am aware I can not get a diagnosis here, but I would like to know what it is likely to be and how long I should I wait to see if it goes away before I make an appointment with my GP?
 
As it has grown over the last few days it may be a cyst of some kind. The fact that it hurts as well points to it being infected (probably a sebaceous gland cyst). Go see your doctor just in case you need a course of antibiotics. In most cases it goes down with no intervention or the skin becomes thin enough for the contents to be expelled.
