Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope this is the year we all get well or at least find out more about what's going on with us and a cure! My NY resolution was not to lose wt or save money (which, I need to do both) but to "try" and not complain so much. Except to you guys, of course! I'm finding it pretty hard to come out with, "I'm doing just fine." LOL.
Maybe if I say it enough, I can make myself believe it.

I am just so grateful that we have each other because this in one of my only outlets to just let it out. I don't know what I would do without you all. You can vent to me anytime you want on here. It just helps because we have this in common. When I try to talk to people around me at work, home etc...no one understanRAB at all unless they suffer from acid reflux too.

I like this post. Happy New Year to all!

I will say that 2008 was my worst year yet. After years of being mostly under control, the reflux flared my asthma in January and just didn't let up. I feel like I went through the entire reflux ringer in 7 months. About 30 doctor's visits, 10 tests, 5 PPI's, and one surgery later, I am excited to say that I haven't had any reflux related asthma problems in 3 months.

My challenge for 2009 is to get my digestive issues under control that were triggered during some of the reflux treatments. I also need to figure out to eat a more balanced diet with all of the restrictions I still have in place because of reflux and IBS.

I can completely relate with the "complaining" resolution. It's tough not to say something when people ask how you are doing and you are feeling lousy because of reflux or digestive issues. That is part of why I like this board so much. It has helped me through some tough times.

Mountain Reader, it's ok with me for you to say however you feel when you are on here. That is why we have this board. Sometimes there are no other outlets to do it. It's comforting to have this support system.

I am thrilled that you are doing better. It gives us all hope! I appreciate you sharing that. I really do feel like it takes a team of doctors to help us get straightened out. Expecially with the reflux, IBS and asthma problems from these. Which I too believe I have all 3. I am at the beginning of all these and trying to figure out a plan. So my 2009 isn't starting out so well. :(
But you give me hope that I can get things figured out. I just have to try and stay positive! That is half the battle.

TEdwarRAB,
If it helps any, when my reflux got really, really bad a few years ago, I actually eventually got it back under control. It took a while, but it lasted for years. I just needed to be vigilant or I would have a bit of break-through. The surgery I finally had was as a last resort because my treatment stopped working it was affecting my breathing so bad. There isn't a cure, but it really is able to be controlled (or made more tolerable) when you find the right corabination of things to treat it. Don't give in to it. There really is hope.

Your Endoscopy Friday is a first step into diagnosing and treating your reflux. Please try not to make yourself sick with your worrying. All will be well. You'll see. Don't be disappointed if they don't find anything. That is a good thing. It just means the reflux hasn't caused damage to your esophagus or stomach. I had severe reflux confirmed by 3 other tests, but my EGD's always came back normal.

My prayers will be with you Friday.
