Seems like yesterday. :o

I saw it on opening night at the Odeon Leicester Square (I think I've still got the ticket somewhere)
Needless to say it was packed, and got very hot inside.

Now I feel old too, still glad I was young enough to enjoy the birth of blockbuster Special FX and sequel to the greatest opening moment in cinema.

By far the best of the Star Wars movies. It was kind of important to me growing up, (I was nine) because it was the first film I'd ever seen where the bad guys win. SounRAB silly, but I really did learn a very important lesson from that.

Wow, 30yrs have certainly passed by quickly

I saw the film on opening day and I'll always remember feeling crushed that I wouldn't see the next film for a few years. The anticipation for 'Return Of The Jedi' was phenomenal and it was a shame that the third film was the weakest of the three.

By far the best starwars film for me i remember watching it as a kid and when it was on the pictures again in the mid to late 90s.

Never realy enjoyed the jedi film and the prequals are turd.

Happy Birthday Empire!

By far the best made of the Star Wars movies although my own personal favourite was Jedi, even though some did'nt think it was as good as the other two.

Empire stanRAB the test of time. Watching at home on the big screen TV is still a treat and always will be.

The Imperial March is a classic piece of music in every sense.

AT-ATs genius design.

Boba Fett iconic.

I could go on.

Love the chase through the asteroid field but my most memorable moment apart from the Vader reveal (of course) is the bit early on where the imperial fleet is moving through space and then a huge shadow passes over them-caused by the Super Star Destroyer-all to the Imperial March-just magic.

Then we got the prequels.:(

Great memories. My childhood:cry:now I'm getting upset.

Didn't know that, after I've watched Doctor Who tonight. I'll put the 'Original' version in the DVD and sit back and watch it as it was mean't to be seen. know could watch the 2 other versions, but thought it makes sense to watch the closest thign we haev to the original film.
*Dare say that the 'Original' version on the dvd is different to the 1980 print, but i'm not awarw of all the changes, sorry!

Incredible film, I wish I was old enough to see this in a cinema when it came out, must have been like witnessing history. I knew it was something special when I saw it for the first time. To be arguably better than Lucas's first Star Wars effort was a major achievement, its a shame that standard wasnt maintained

Yeah. The best Star Wars film. I love the fact that it is so dark - in story terms and in cinematography as well(it really adRAB to it). It is by far the most grown up of the films in terms of story.

Along with Raging Bull, Ran, Fanny and Alexander it is one of the great films of the 1980s!

John Williams' Empire score is THE masterpiece of his career, IMO. That soundtrack will still hold up and be listened to in 100-200 years time. An outstanding piece of opera.
