Halloween 3

Why do people hate this film so much?

I'm watching it now and still feel it has a good story to it.

Do people feel that it could not compete with 'Halloween 1 and 2'? (Michael Myers}

I like this film. Watched it the other night (Halloween night infact!), my partner doesn't like it but i do. It's completely different and doesn't have a single link to the other Halloween films, but it is still a good film.

"3 more days till Halloween, Halloween, Halloween... 3 more days till Halloween... Silver Shamrock!"

I started watching this last night. It was the only one of the whole Halloween franchise that I hadn't seen, I remember trying to get it on DVD on eBay a few years ago... and am I glad I didn't! I turned it off half way through, I can see why it is the least popular of the series. Didn't have me gripped at all!

The original screenplay was written by Nigel (Quatermass) Kneale but was so extensively re-written by Tommy Lee Wallace that Kneale insisted his name be removed from the credits.

I didn't watch this last night, although I have seen it before. I have to say I didn't think much of it to be honest. The plot was all a bit slow and ill-conceived. It wasn't particularly scary or creepy. Bottom line, it wasn't that good.

If it wasn't classed as part of the Halloween series of films it would have been long since forgotten by now.

^^

I've heard that was the reason. However after Halloween III bombed and they decided to return to the Michael Myers storyline, I don't know why they didn't decide to remove Season of the Witch from the Halloween franchise. They should have made The Return of Michael Myers the new Halloween III, and let Season of the Witch be regarded as stand-alone film. As I mentioned before, it probably would have been forgotten about by now, but now the only purpose it serves is to 'pollute' the Halloween franchise.

At that time there had only been 2 Halloween films & as we know they killed off Michael Myers at the end of HII.So now Halloween was no longer associated with Michael Myers. It was only because of HIII not doing well money wise that the franchise was brought back to life with the Michael Myers character.

And because of the sequals that all have Michael Myers in them.As soon as you think Halloween films you think Michael Myers. But you have to remember back when HIII was being made that wasn't the case. The character was gone & they were starting afresh. It's only because that the film flopped that people now think it was daft using Halloween in the title because they went back to the Michael Myers character. But they didn't know that at the time that the film wasn't going to do that well.So they had every right to use the Halloween name because they were making a film that was based around Halloween.

Also the III in the Halloween title is actualy reference to the 3 Silver Shamrock masks.

Very true. But like I said further up, after they had released Halloween III and it flopped, why when they returned to the Michael Myers story did they not make that film Halloween III, and disregard Season of the Witch?

Halloween 3 isn't the worst film I've seen but ithe last 20 minutes or so are quite dreadful. It suddenly turns into a James Bond film with the the lead character effortlessly destroying the bad guys base all on his own and no one trying to stop him.

The very final scene is sort of chilling, but again credibility is stretched to the limit. I mean, some guy rings up the TV stations and within a minute persuades two of them to pull an advert without any explanation? (I think I might try that next week during X-Factor actually).

For years I couldnt look past the exclusion of Myers, now I can but I still don't enjoy this movie.
The first halfs actually quite good but it descenRAB into a movie that is simply just a very 80's style B movie.
I do like the silver shamrock tune though and the story too.

As for why Halloween 4 wasnt called Halloween 3,I guess it was simply because it would cause some mixups if there were 2 movies titled Halloween 3 especially with distrbuters.

Given the indifferent or worse attitude to Halloween III, even if it's far too late to remove it from the Halloween franchise, I do wish they would release a DVD box set that didn't include that film. So you could have Halloween 1-6, plus H20 and Resurrrection, without having Season of the Witch sticking out like a sore thumb.

Also while we're hovering around Halloween and it's sequels, it looks like the BBC is having a Halloween season. Having shown Halloween and Halloween II last week, followed by Season of the Witch last night, they will now show Halloween IV: The Return of Michael Myers on Saturday 24th November at 1:20am (i.e. late Friday night).

They can release it or not I don't care either way but what I do want to see an ultimate box set release in 2008.

With Halloween,2,4,5,6,7,8 and the remake.
+ the 25 years of terror documentary and the never released and much better Halloween 6:Producers Cut.

i consider the franchise like his
H1
H2
H(H20)= THE perfect trilogy

i consider these to be spin off stories because theres noway you can link the 2 different story paths
H4
H5
H6
H8(Ressurection)=GOD AWFUL it ruins H20s perfect ending

i dont even consider H3 in the franchise its usless and cheesy IMO.

but these stories are all finished now the REMAKE has come and renewed the whole franchise awell

I'd rather watch Halloween: Resurrection over Halloween III again anyday, even though I do agree with you biggebruv on Halloween 8, ugh.

Halloween, and Halloween H20 are in my dvd collection, that's all I need :)

Finally I can see where it fits in then.:) Thanks
Still like it though, a lot better than the rest of the 'Halloween' films from 3, up to H20 which was a great film, then all down hill again.

The funny thing is, I never rated H20 all that much. That's not to say I thought it was bad (because it wasn't). It's just that I felt that H20 was a bit of a cash-in on the teen slasher genre that appeared after Scream in 1996. It seemed to lack some of the tension and atmosphere that made the earlier films so good. It was almost murder-by-numbers in some parts. I suppose it just didn't feel much like a Halloween film. Still decent though.

If it had a different title it would have stood on its own merits but, unfortunately, as it has Halloween in its title it is automatically compared to the classic original.

personally, i think it is a watchable little 80's b movie, i wouldnt go out of my way to watch it but it is quite entertaining in a 'late night nothing else on telly' kind of way.
