hair colouring triggering asthma

Hi
Just wondered if anyone has encountered asthma problems after colouring their hair. I have had it happen sometimes when I have had my hair done.
 
Hi...I use professional hair colours and some are definitely more offensive than others.

What colour line is your hairdresser using?

Is she spraying another product over your hair before colouring?

Is your hairdresser using a streaking cap for hilighting or a plastic bag over your colour? Some of those can also trigger a reaction.

The particular coloring my current hairdresser uses doesn't cause me any problems. I had to stop going in most hair salons though because the smell and chemicals causes me to have asthma attacks. I can't even walk by the salons in the malls or chain stores because it will trigger my asthma. What a pain.

My current salon is just a single person. He does use some coloring, but there are no other chemicals.

Thank you both for your comments. I am sure now that I will have to look in to chemical free hair colourings for next time because it is not good for my health.

You could try a puff of albuterol - or whatever rescue inhaler you have - before going to have it done....like we have to do before cardio or some other activities.

This time I wore a mask and also took my rescue inhaler but neither one helped. I really think the only way to go is to go chemical free.

When I go into get my hair cut, I always try to arrive just as they open. That way I am usually able to avoid those getting hair color or perms. I go to Custom Cuts and being a guy, need little other than a cut, so I'm not in there very long.So I guess that factors in. However if chemicals are being used, I just come back another day. You ladies have to endure so much more than I do. And, being retired, I have a lot of flexibility on getting my hair cut.
I hope that you guys find something that works.
