It's very sad that he died but was his performance really that good?Is he remembered better because of his death (similar to the way people exaggerate how good tupac was).

no it was good...but if he were alive he would not have won...b4 the movie came out people were already saying he would win

abso-freaking-lutly!he was amazing in that movie.im not actually a fan of his, however, his characterization was abosulty amazing! he totally captured the joker better than ever before

i thought he was really good in the Dark Knight.in my opinion of course.but i also thought some of his older movies were pretty good, like Candy, so that also, obviously, effects my decision.so i do think he deserved the Oscar, because he was really good.but his death probably did have an impact and make it a secure, prominent choice for him to win.all this in my opinion of course.but the Tupac reference, i don't like tupac, so death doesn't really change my perception of the acting/singing/rapping.whatever talent.

He pulled off the role like a psychotic madman, no one will top his performance, Heath ledger is now forever the Joker. He was a good actor, Oscar caliber? Maybe. Remember the Dark Knight is still a superhero movie, that fact got overshadowed since Heath did such a great job, then died. But its not like D.K got a lot of nods, Heath is the favourite.... but with the Oscars.... the fav's dont always win.

Yes, I think he would have. His performance in The Dark Knight was amazing! He was sooo good, it was hard to believe he wasn't really the joker!! His performance was not a good performance, it was a phenomenal performance!!

This year he would have. His category wasn't extremely competitive and he was very good in his role.

it's always hard to say when the person has died before they are praised, hollywood seems to love their drama and heartfelt moments whether they are genuine or not.would nirvana have got as big as they did had not kurt died? would ne1 have known who courtney love was?u do have to ask yourself these questions.personally i think he did an amazing job in 'the dark knight', you can see that he had matured greatly as an actor and i think he really suprised everyone, it was his big breakthrough role.whether he deserved an oscar...i don't think we'd really know unless he was alive today

Well my opinion is that his performance was awesome and it was oscar worthy. Now comes the politics...he probably would not have won because of his age. The academy would have taken the position that "he is young talented actor and will have many other chances to win another one." Based on that probably the oscar would have gone to Robert Downy Jr because Hollywood loves a comeback story. Downy has the comeback story of the year and it now on top of the world after being at the very bottom just a few years ago. So to summarize, did Heath Ledge's performance merit an Oscar? Yes, but he had not not passed away he would not have won, which would have been wrong.
