Had acute pneumonia, took antibiotics, but still feel sick. Why?

I was diagnosed with acute pneumonia 2 Fridays ago. I went into the ER and they did a chest X-ray and then gave me vicodin and azithromax. I took the antibiotic all 7 days (insurance wouldn't cover all 10 pills, only 8, so I took 2 the first day and one every day after like instructed). The 7 days were hell; my fever would get so high that I had chills, I'd cough so hard that I puked, and I had to take vicodin and ibueprofen like candy just to deal with the symptoms. After a couple days, towards the end of the antibiotic, the fever went away. Then after that, the puking subsided with pepto bismol. However, the cough is still here. I feel like I'm drowning in my coughs, and I can feel the mucus in my lungs when I breathe and cough. I still don't really have an appetite, either. Plus, my back and chest are still in so much pain that my doctor wrote me another prescription for 30 5-325 vicodin at 2 caplets every 4 hours. Does anybody know what's going on? Why do I still feel so crappy? I don't want to make a doctor appt. if its not serious, but I'd like to know what's going on. Only proffesional answers please. Also, can pneumonia become something more serious or turn into pleurisy? If so, how?
