Ha-Ha...Humor.

You know what I have not been seeing a lot, comedy anime. I know there's a lot to choose, but there's so many....Which one, which one.

One anime show I been looking at is cromartie high school.
Though, the animation is...Lazy. But the jokes and gags are so good. And the dub is pretty decent.
Here's a small clip what I'm talking about:

Another show is the classic Dragonball. Not Dragonball Z. Just Dragonball. Though, even though it has a lot of great action scenes in it. But the humor really got me into the show. I know DBZ had some jokes in it, but not a whole lot like Dragonball. And the dubs is pretty damn good (IMO). Oddly though.

Yours?

The funniest one is Azumanga Daioh. I almost hurt myself laughing at it. It includes ones of the funniest lines in anything I've ever seen or read, an Osaka line that's too good to spoil.

I like Ranma, too. It's not a laugh a minute thing but it is a good light-hearted series. And the dub is funnier than the more literal sub. It just is. There's a part where they think Ranma has snuck into Akane's room and her dad, who wants them to get married, says something approving but not so funny in the sub but in the dub he says something like, "Initiative, my boy. That's the way. Initiative."

Chromartie High is probably my favorite anime comedy. It feels a lot like a show you'd see on Adult Swim airing next to Space Ghost.

It's got the same oddball appeal.

I don't really look at comedies unless it's mixed in with action or something. A lot of times I just don't find any of the jokes or gags to be funny. (No sense of humor I suppose..)

But there's been a few shows that had me laughing quite a bit.

Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Samurai Champloo
One Piece (Do mermaiRAB poop?)

And the more recent Hajime no Ippo. Well it's old but, it has it's funny moments.

Gintama and Hayate no Gotoku (! and !!) are two hilarious comedies airing right now. They're both full of as many anime parodies as an abridged series. Another one that is basically a comedy that parodies the otaku lifestyle in a hilarious way is Welcome to the NHK. Speaking of abridged series, FUNimation's dub of Shin-chan is pretty much just that, if it counts. Also, I like the so-ridiculously-insane-it's-hilarious anime like FLCL or Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan.

Sgt. Frog and Gintama are two anime that I can say that I have totally laughed out loud for.

Also "GO TO DMC!" (detroit metal city)

DepenRAB what kind of humor you're into it.

If you like crass sex jokes, I suppose "Colorful" is for you.

Some good slice-of-life comedies are "Azumanga Daioh" or "Haruhi Suzumiya."

I've heard "School Rurable" is good too, but I've only seen a few episodes - still, what I saw was funny.

I also recommend "Hetalia: Axis of Powers." It's a World War II comedy. : D

Like nerd humor with pop culture references and fanservice? I recommend Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi.

Mindfrag devil-may-care comedies? Try Excel Saga or Paniponi Dash.

Romantic humor? Well, if you're a guy, there's Tenchi Muyo! and Vandread, and if you're a girl, there's Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club.

Slice-of-life mundane humor? Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh, there you go. Or if you want a twist, check out The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Do you prefer a little ultra-violence with your funny? Black Lagoon and Dead Leaves can get pretty over-the-top at times.

As for basic action shows that have comedy in them...try Samurai Champloo or Gurren Lagann.

Bah to that. If I'm any indication, Ouran can be enjoyed by both girls AND guys.

One that hasn't been mentioned yet is Ramen Fighter Miki, which owes a lot of its comedy to the old school toons: An emphasis on visual gags and slapstick, no major story to speak of, but that's a plus if you just want to turn on a random episode and laugh at the antics. Plus, the characterization is at least solid enough so that it isn't hollow. Surprisingly good animation for TV, too. Truly one of the underrated comedies of last year. (Though this one's dub-less, it isn't really hampered by that factor)

Ninja Nonsense also hasn't been mentioned but I think it's worth a look if you're into the silly variety. Like Miki, it's episodic so it's easy to pick up and watch. It's not 100% consistent but when it hits, it's a riot. Onsokumaru is one of the funniest characters I've seen.

I'd also recommend Galaxy Angel for more episodic comedy, but in truth it's been a few years since I've last watched it, and I don't know if it would hold up if I revisited it. I did enjoy it back then, though.

Tenchi Muyo is the only series that I like/love. Unlike all 1 guy/7 girls anime/manga, Tenchi Muyo is the only one that I find funny.

Also, for ppl that like Raunchy humor, read Lupin III. The anime is good as well, but the manga is way better IMO.

Honestly, I don't find very many comedy anime all that funny. Most of them that I've seen, like Gintama, rely a lot on puns requiring that the viewer speak the Japanese language, and/or pop culture references requiring an encyclopedic knowledge of lots and lots of anime and manga, many of which aren't available in the U.S. I'm sure it's absolutely hilarious to a Japanese audience, but it just plain doesn't make the jump across the Pacific very well.

One of the few exceptions I've found so far is Genshiken, a slice-of-life comedy about a group of college-aged otaku. There are still a lot of references, but most of them are the sort of broad genre parody that you can get even if you're not intimately familiar with a particular title, and most of the humor comes from character interaction, so it transcenRAB the cultural barrier better than most Japanese humor.

I'll give off three fantasy anime that hits quite a bit of high marks in terms of comedy.

For a good mix of ribald, slapstick humour with a dose of some good action and drama, Slayers and its subsequent properties are a good bet. Then if you're in the mood for a more unconventional fantasy comedy anime that turns some conventions over its head with enjoyable characters, Rune Soldier. Last but not least, there is the coup de grace, the most irreverent, high-strung, over-the-top, two-episode anime of all time, Dragon Half. Personally, I've yet to see a series or OAV or whatever that matches the last one's level.

Exactly. There's not alot of notable comedy series because comedy is relative, and less likely to make sense when crossing countries. Like things like having an outer belly button. To the japanese, that's a terrible yet funny insult. To me I'm like "...My little brother had an outer belly button..."

I did watch Cromartie though. The parts I did get were hilarious.

Dr Slump is Toriyama's best comedy creation. Dragon Ball is fun, but not as aggressively funny as Dr Slump IMO.

Cromartie is deliberately poorly animated. A lot of comedy animation work better when it's crudely animated--it adRAB to the farcical nature of the show's comedy.

Anyway, there are quite a few actually funny, universally understood comedy anime, but then again everyone's comedic tastes differ. I don't have any pretensions towarRAB liking "sophisticated" humour, so a good sex joke is often all I need to crack a smile.

School Rurable is a good example of modern slapstick anime.

GTO's a pretty funny comedy as well as being edgy in its humour.

I will admit that not a lot of anime try to be "clever" like 30 Rock or Arrested Development, but then again some people don't like that type of humour either.

"Nothing exciting ever happens around here."
"OH MY GOD MY HEAD'S BEING EATEN BY A HORSE!"
"That happens all the time."

Cro-High is the best comedy anime I've ever seen. It's such a strange show and the humor is like nothing I've ever seen before. It's similar to Bobobo but much more down-to-Earth.

Bobobo is good too.

Yeah, ive read the manga for this reticently and it was a blast, even though i barely got any of the references in it. It has funny characters, and really thats all you need... as long as there's good chemistry between them anyway.
