i cancelled my gym membership over the phone and then cancelled my direct debit. ignored a letter from the gym saying i owed them £27 for the months notice i didnt pay them, now i got a letter from debt collectors saying i owe £50(months notice fees and late fees now!). havent signed a contract with them since 2006 but they say that the months cancellation notice is written into the origninal terms and conditions i signed. is there anyway i can get out of paying this and is there anyone (like OFT or citizens advice) that i could mention im going to speak to to scare them into letting me off the payment?
