GV N1 messaging integration

Just want to make sure that others with the N1 have the same thing. This is my first Android phone and I came from a Pre.

With GV I have to send sms from the Voice app to have it be from my GV #. This I am fine with. However, when I get a reply it comes into the messaging app which I cannot reply to. In other words it seems that the messaging app is not integrated with GV like the Phone app is. I see no "Use GV for all outgoing and incoming sms" type choices. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to use the Voice app for all sms and simply clear the notifications from messaging? Its sort of annoying to get the same sms in both.

On the Pre it was opposite. The Voice app wasn't integrated but the sms was. In other words I would have to send the sms from GV but then I could reply to the replies in the Messaging app.

you can disable forwarding of the sms and just get it in voice, that's what i do. right now you probably have it set up to forward sms, so you get a message in voice and your messages.

I tested that back when I very first got Google Voice. When I replied in the messaging app, even though there wasn't an option, it still sent the message through the Google Voice number. I think because it has to send to a Google server then the Google server makes it your voice number then forwards it to the person. Thats just my guess though, have a friend test it with you. Lately what I've done is exactly what spirolateral said though. The problem with that is that the Google Voice app isn't push, instead it refreshes every 15 minutes or whatever you have it set to.

Is that sms forwarding configured in the phone settings or on the web settings? I saw a sms forwarding setup for forwarding sms to email, but thats it. If I uncheck the "recieve sms on this phone" then that will shutoff sms completely right?

There's an option in the GV settings online -- not in the app but in the website -- to have it send messages with your GV # rather than your cell #. That way the replies come into GV rather than Messaging.

I had this problem with my G1 and it bugged me for a while until I thought of a solution. Reguardless of the suggestions below, you will have to use the Google Voice app for SMS if you want to use Google Voice. Depending on your situation, these are my suggestions.

1. You have unlimited SMS but want to use GV anyways:
I suggest that you use SMS forwarding. This will allow you to get the GV SMS through push rather than pull. In order to eliminate the second message, you can open the default messaging app and turn off notifications. This way, new messages will only come up with a google voice notification and they will be push.

2. You don't have unlimited texting and want to use Google Voice for SMS
(A) You can set up Google Voice to forward the SMS to your phone and then reply back with GV. This is essentially the same thing as the suggestion stated above except you are using some of your carrier messages. This is what I do with my phone. I have the 400 text messages/month plan with t-mobile. Before, that meant I had 400 incoming and outgoing messages combined, which sucked. Now, since GV uses data to send SMS, I have 400 incoming alone. Now here comes the good part, when (and if) I reach the 400 limit, I can just turn of SMS forwarding and use GV pull until my payment cycle restarts. This way, I essentially getting unlimited push GV SMS without paying for unlimited SMS.

(B) You can just turn off GV SMS forwarding and use GV SMS pull service. You can set it to check every 5 minutes, which isn't really that bad, considering you save some money. And this doesn't necessarily mean you have to wait 5 minutes to see your message. If someone sends a message 1 minute before your phone checks, you will get the message in 1 minute.
