Guy on ebay wants me to request money through paypal outside ebay. Scam?

This guy wants to purchase a pearl necklace I'm desparate to sell on eBay and he says there's a problem with his account so he wants me to request money from PayPal. If I do that and he pays me, shouldn't it be okay? Could he be trying to rip me off and if so, how?
