...or answer me with facts! ? There are 4 facts I would like to share with you, before a few quotes:

1) Every dictator- including Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Saddam, Pol Pot, Castro, Chavez, etc.- used gun control. After they had it implemented, they systematically exterminated those they didn't like. MILLIONS of them. Bcuz only the govt. had guns, nobody could fight back.

2) Having gun control helps the criminals- here's why. A criminal- if he's caught for murder- will get life sentence or death. Correct? So the CRIMINAL will not WORRY about getting a misdemeanor for having a gun when there's gun control bans. He will be behind bars if hes caught for life ANYWAY, or he's not caught at all. Gun regulations dont deter criminals AT ALL!
However- it disarms the INNOCENT CITIZEN who is so intent on obeying the law that he will not get a gun and break the law- even for his own protection!

3) Crimes have been statistically WAY higher in areas with gun control than with areas without it- a criminal thinks twice about attacking somebody who can shoot back. This is statistically proven. DC's crime has lowered tremendously since the ban was restricted.

4) Aside from the above common sense reasons why gun control is not only ineffective, but dystopian and big govt./enslavement, it ALSO is banned by the second amendment!
the 2nd amendment states that we have the right to keep and bear arms. period. finito. done. sooooo......... on to the next thing......

Here are a few quotes from famous people:

Don't think of it as `gun control', think of it as `victim disarmament'. If we make enough laws, we can all be criminals. -Jeff Snyder

To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them. – George Mason

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. - Thomas Jefferson

"This year will go down in history! For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!" -Adolf Hilter

The conclusion is thus inescapable that the history, concept, and wording of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, as well as its interpretation by every major commentator and court in the first half-century after its ratification, indicates that what is protected is an individual right of a private citizen to own and carry firearms in a peaceful manner. – Report of the Subcommittee on the Constitution of the Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, 97th Congress, Second Session (February 1982)

Gun control? It's the best thing you can do for crooks and gangsters. I want you to have nothing. If I'm a bad guy, I'm always gonna have a gun. Safety locks? You will pull the trigger with a lock on, and I'll pull the trigger. We'll see who wins. – Sammy "The Bull" Gravano

They have gun control in Cuba. They have universal health care in Cuba. So why do they want to come here? – Paul Harvey 8/31/94

After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn't do it. I sure as hell wouldn't want to live in a society where the only people allowed guns are the police and the military (and the criminals). – William S. Burroughs

The usual road to slavery is that first they take away your guns, then they take away your property, then last of all they tell you to shut up and say you are enjoying it. – James A. Donald

Gun bans don't disarm criminals, gun bans attract them. – Walter Mondale

“Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.” Joseph Stalin

Facts? Ok. The USA experiences an average of around 12000 gun murders every year. With around a quarter of the USA's population and strict gun controls, the UK sees an average of around 70 gun murders a year. So the statistics actually prove gun control works-even if you adjust the numbers to allow for the USA's higher population, you are around 46 times more likely to be shot dead in the USA. Also, the last two gun massacres in the UK were caried out by licensed gun owners.

Sadly for the USA, guns are now so deeply embedded into the lives of Americans and there are so many guns out there, that it would be impossible to effectively control them. I would much rather live in a country which has strict gun laws, where nobody has a gun, than in a place like the USA which has comedy gun laws and everyone is armed to the teeth.

Oh, and stop listening to the USA's propaganda machine-Chavez is not a dictator, he was democratically elected.

Edit to bobbo; good answer, and backed with stats too. However, you've made the mistake of using NRA & pro-gun sources so they were never going to be anything other than meaningless. I got my sources from nationmaster statistics, which is rather less biased than NRA sources and gun shows etc. It shows that gun murders in for example 2007, came in at 0.0428 per 1000 people in the USA, and 0.0140 in the UK...which includes Northern Ireland, where there are still a great many illegal ifrearms left over from the days of the IRA/INLA etc. To paraphrase your answer, if Northern Ireland fell into the Irish Sea, the UK gun murder rate would drop through the floor.
I agree with you that London is worse than NYC for crime-I've lived in both cities. However, we are talking about gun murders, not muggings. You can mug someone with a syringe for God's sake. Stop twisting already meaningless statistics to suit your own agenda.
Your answer does show the real NRA mentality though; blame it all on the illegals. Sorry, but I wouldn't believe the NRA if it told me Christmas was coming in December.
Oh, and I now live in Australia, which bans handguns but does allow strictly controlled hunting weapons. Guess what? Perth is one of the safest cities I've ever lived in.

I just wanted to add:

Britain Backfire.
"A litany of failures were apparent as early as the year 2000, when CBS news reported that law and order in Britain was deteriorating at a rapid rate, while the country was experiencing a crime surge much more severe than any recorded in the U.S."

"use of handguns to commit crimes rose 40% two years following the total ban on guns."

"In 2002, the chance of being mugged in London was approx. 6 times greater than in New York City, NY." (which as strict gun control as well).

“In fact, the motherland was indeed racing ahead by a substantial lead, sporting a crime rate in England and Wales that at times peaked at as much as 60% above the crime stats here in the U.S., with gun crimes being especially prominent?”

Lantz, Gary (2/2008), Backfire in Britain,
American's 1st Freedom, Feb 2008,
p27 and 28

If the UK had the same population as the US, it would be quite VIRTUALLY running rivers of blood!
But, what the heck, let's take have a look as someone else's wisdom in the matter, which I'm sure >YOU'LL< be enamored of!!!

Post # 177 {The UK 'gun ban' or GunShow is a CHRONIC LIAR}

Via feedup

USA population compared to UK

300 million USA
60 million UK

Comparison of overall crime increase per million. The statistical population increase is proportional to the rise in crime.

60 Mil./300 mil x 5%+60% increase for illegal’s = approximant rate of increase of crime.

The average per million increase of population figures at 0.75 %.

Illegal insurgent increases at approximately 1.5% per million. Approximant 25 million.

82.5 = 60/300 X (0.75 X 300)+(25 X 1.5)

Gives you an 82.5% increase in crime.

Well, there >YOU< go!

-----------------------------------------------------
according to the 2006 IL UCR.

Illinois had a population of 12.8 million w/ a murder rate of 6.1/100K (780)

Chicago had 22.2% of the population of Illinois yet accounted for 60% of murders w/ a per capita rate of 16.4/100K

Cook County had 41.4% of the population of Illinois yet accounted for 73.6% of murders w/ a per capita rate of 10.83/100K

The Cook County murders in raw number/per capita increased 4.4% and 4.9% respectively while arrest numbers and rates dropped over 18% from '05 to '06.

If Chicago were to fall into Lake Michigan, the Illinois murder rate would drop to 3.14

Were the rest of Cook County to follow suit, the rate would drop to 2.74.

So far this year, murders are up 13%.

And where are the strictest gun laws?

Well, I wanted to give a really inspiring pro-2nd amendment argument but I think you covered all bases. Good job.

I think the Hitler and Stalin quotes are the most convincing. That is exactly what happens.

I believe that philosophically, the 1st Amendment is the most important of the bunch. It is the single best summation of what we want our culture to be.

However, practically speaking, I think that the 2nd Amendment is the most important on the list.
Why?
Because I firmly believe that the 2nd Amendment's exists to protect the continued existence of all the rest of the Amendments. Without it, I don't think the 1st Amendment would still be there in the form it takes today.

Certainly, it allows one to defend themselves from common street criminals, but more importantly, it also allows one to protect themselves from the utter oppression of their own government.

I was watching a crime show earlier about a serial killer who knifed to death 4 groups of 2 victims in each group in the same area in the 1980's. the cops did not even warn the public until after the 4th group that a S. killer was working the area. Cops will not protect you and the liberals will never get my guns so that they can feel safe.
