so...i'm a shredder that can pull off 6-finger tapping, sweeps, and so on, but they won't let me play in the praise band because i know very little about chords.well, trying out for lead playing, i was able to pick out all the lead parts,perfectly, by ear, but the worship leader didn't like the fact that i didn't use other voicings of the rhythm chords, even though i picked out some chords in the right key(without knowing "exactly" which chords i was playing).
This makes no sense to me, since I've even watched our church's lead players play through the songs with no chords at all, only using scales and single-notes.
*and he, thus, won't let me play in the band.
*i don't have to shred, just simple melodies and some solos,and i barely have to use chords; i could honestly learn songs overnight, but he wants me to know the chords, not caring that i can play them.
