GAMES DEVELOPER Rockstar has released the online version of crime adventure game Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5).
Online play of GTA 5 is enabled through a software update and accessible through your Menu screen, which is accessed via the Start button. You can also get in from your character wheel. Just select that and move down to the fourth, empty space.
"We've received many questions asking for a specific confirmation of what exact time GTA Online will be available but of course this is contingent on both Title Updates becoming available on each console's network," Rockstar said earlier.
"As a general timeframe, we do expect the Title Update to become available on PSN and Xbox LIVE starting around 7AM ET tomorrow morning, and your best bet is to stay tuned throughout the day here at the Rockstar Newswire and by following us on Twitter and Facebook where we will be keeping everyone updated."
Once you get in you will be part of action that takes place a few months before the main story arc in GTA 5.
As punters play so will Rockstar and the game learn. The firm said that it will tweak the online experience in the short term to deal with cheats and other issues.
"To allay some concerns we've heard on this subject, we can assure you that the game is designed such that the option of purchasable GTA$ should not disrupt the playing field - and there are a few mechanics in place to help ensure that," it said.
"We will constantly tweak all areas of the game to make it play fairer and iron out any balancing problems (while fixing all the other problems we encounter!), but we really need your help in figuring out what those issues are. So please work with us on that!"
Also being considered during the early launch days is the load that gamers put on the firm. GTA will have dedicated servers behind it, and Rockstar is not ruling out teething problems as it switches from a testing environment to the live one.
"The first couple of weeks we expect to be heavily focused on tuning the experience as it goes from internal testing to the reality of being played by tons of people in the real world so that all the usual teething problems for an online game are overcome," it said.
"We hope it will all run incredibly smoothly, but please bear with us if it doesn't, and help us fix any and all problems!" µ
