gs450 suzuki tranny problems?

hi i have a 1980's model gs450 and i have broke the motor down bolt by bolt and i ordered a manual but i have a problem with my tranny...well when i put it together it dont wanna shift right ill put it in 1 gear and it works and i put it in another and itll lock up....well i know for 100% the tranny is good...when i ripped it apart it was ok....is there a trick about putting the tranny back in or what??
 
Did you put the shift forks back in right?Some shims may have been put in the wrong places,I always measure the shims with calipers and document their locations.The gears could have been put on the shafts wrong.Did you install the rachet mechanism on the shifting drum correctly?
