Growing a couple Marijuana plants outdoors?

I'm thinking of throwing down a about 3 seeds in my backyard. It is a safe location, but I'm worried about whether or not it will work. I live in Washington and will plant them in May sometime so the sun won't be an issue, but what else do I need to do to ensure my plants grow well? I want to grow, but am totally in the dark on what to do.
