suicide and self-harm"? Okay so I have a debate project and my subject is " Should media be censored due to its influence on suicide and self-harm?" "You can't shelter kids from the harsh realities of life. It shields the morals of society." That's all I have so far and this is a group project so I'm doing this as my opening statement.

My question to you all: How should my opening statement be and how would I make it last one minute? Also, how would you argue if I am con (against censoring the media) with good proof or evidence? If you can please give me a few good links or ideas. Please and thank you.
 
You could argue by stating your proof AND some evidence, but also bring up some counter arguments that the opposing person might say, and contradict them.

One idea would be to use the Constitution. The first amendment which contains the freedom of press.
Or how the people have a right to know what is going on in their community good or bad. If someone did suicide, instead of hiding the facts, media should say the facts, and give some positive facts about how to prevent that, and what to do. Which is exactly what they tend to do!
