Grooming question! Best way to shave armpits? + Do I need to trim around his mouth?

I've been grooming Kingston myself for about a year now and everything has been fine. If you're just going to tell me to "take him to a real groomer," save it. If you're really concerned, give me the $50 to do so.
Sorry, but I hate those answers!

I was just wondering what the best way to shave his armpits is. I've been using a #10 blade (is that the best blade to use for this?) and I'll roll him on his side and try to do it. It's a very awkward place to shave and I can never get all the hair. I'm nervous my clippers will snag his skin or something.
So.. tips? What's the best way?

And I'm also letting his coat grow out for the winter! I usually keep him shaved down.
It's just now getting long and fluffy and I've noticed that the hair around his lips is always wet and it gets sticky/gross fast.
Can I just clip the hair on his upper lip (that's hanging down into his mouth) straight across? Would that look weird? Or should I just leave it?
Sorry if that makes no sense, it's hard to explain.

I'm probably going to put him in a pet clip eventually, but for now I like him fluffy and natural.

Thanks!
Forgot to add, Kingston is a Poodle mix.
His hair isn't curly like a poodle.. kind of just thick and wavy.. I guess?
I have a picture on my profile if it helps.
