Grooming my horse for western showmanship.... Her Mane?

secret

I am showing my horse tomorrow at a slightly high class show, I clipped her legs a few weeks ago as well as her face. early tomorrow I will reclip her nose. and eyes and apply baby oil, she will also have hoof black on she has too long of a mane though and I really dont want to cut it, i use her for reining so will they take points off? should i tell the judge that I use her for reining. i have never been in this situation before because I always had western pleasure horses that had there manes banded, what would be the most proper thing? do I still band it even though its longer?

If it is long, do not band it for the showmanship class. They are not supposed to take points off for long manes.....technically, you don't even have to band the mane at all as it's not a rule that it has to be banded. It just has to be clean, brushed, and neat.

What I did with my reiner before a showmanship class is loosely braid his mane into larger sections overnight. The next morning when we got to the show, I took the mane out of the braids, and brushed it out. It helps keep the mane from getting knotted overnight, as well as keeps it lying neatly on one side of the neck.

You also might want to clip the legs again if you haven't done it in a few weeks, just to touch them up and get rid of the hair that has started to grow back.
