well i adopted a salt and pepper mini schnauzer and she was left to get tangled and most likely was never groomed when we took her in we bathed her and pulled out all the knots and know were stuck with a very unattractive mini schnauzer she has awesome family potential and we´ve grown to love her but i was wondering whether to have her just completely shaved well trimmed to the smallest size in order to fix her hair or what should i do

well, as a dog groomer, i will tell you that the only thing a professional groomer will do is completely strip (shave) your dog if it has patches or spots of hair gone. where i groom it would cost you $40, not sure about your area. you could also buy your own clippers and shave her yourself, it wouldnt hurt to have a pair on hand incase you cant keep up with the brushing later on. you can find regular pet clippers at any walmart. i think mini schnauzers look pretty cute without a skirt. . and a tip, if you decide to do it at home, put her on top of a table or counter and she will be much more still.

Go to a professional groomer. There is a set pattern for schnauzers. And it is really a nice look. the saddle is shaved (for pet styles--for show it is hand plucked and not easy to do) and the legs are trimmed shorter but still alittle fluffy. The head and ears are shaved close and the beard is trimmed.

I'd recommend bringing her to a professional and having them save what they can. If they have to completely shave her down then at least she'll have a fresh start on re-developing the coat pattern.
