Hi,

I'm getting a groin injection (corticosteroid) this friday and would really appreciate it if anybody could let me know what to expect as I am most uncomfortable with the prospect. Had loads of dental injections and they didn't bother me in the slightest, but this IS a different kettle of fish!. Does it hurt? How long will it last? Settle my nerves here, please!

For what purpose are you getting this injection? I've had steroid shots before and they were in the arm. And do you mean how long the benefits of the injection will last or how long any pain from it will last?

Hi Titchou,

It's for chronic tendinitis of the adductor. I meant how much will it hurt when it is administered. I think I'm seeking some reassurance, I know it'll hurt but the benefits far outweigh that.

Well, stomach injections aren't fun. And they probably hurt a little more than your arm or buttocks which are kind of toughened up. If they are trying to get it in a particularly specific place, that can be painful as they have to sort of move it around sometimes. But just a regular injection there (like for a blood thinner or insulin) isn't really all that painful...maybe an 7 when and arm one is a 3? And dental injections to me are the absolute worst! So to me, these are way less painful...and it'll quit hurting as soon as the needle is removed. So no long lasting pain unless of course you've flinched or they've had to jiggle it around. And then it will be sore for a while.
