groin hernia repair

Wow, I just talked to my surgeon and found out that with insurance, the groin hernia repair will only cost $672.54. What a relief! I guess insurance does cover a huge chunk of it. I only have to pay a little bit over my $400 deductible. I go in for my surgery in just over a week. In a way I'm kind of looking forward to it because I've been very stressed and tired and am looking forward to the rest I'll get during the week. I'll probably be staying home 1 1/2 weeks and returning to work the following week, but only for two days. Luckily we have a work holiday on one of the days, so it worked out quite well.

I have one other question for those of you who have had the repair- what do you recommend that I wear to my surgery? Would pajama-type pants with a loose fit be fine? I definitely couldn't imagine attempting to wear jeans or anything afterwards.

Great insurance plan you have! My groin doesnt hurt anymore. I guess the groin epidural injection I had worked. Its amazing I am pain free right now. I dont want to jinx myself. Good Luck to TurRrRa next week!!! REST. Make sure to have your painkillers at your home BEFORE you come home from surgery. Also try not to sneeze. sqeeze a pillow over your peliv area if you have to sneeze and DO NOT hold the sneeze in, it puts all the pressure on your abdomen. I know it sounds stupid but I made a conscious effort not to sneeze. No dogs near me ( even though I have 4), NO KIDS near me at all for 1 week at least. Stock up on some healthy soups and crackers before you have surgery. Also lots of gatorade and water. Avoid dehydration. Personally I stopped all vitamins and supplements for about 10 days as they made me nauseus because I couldnt eat and was in pain. Remember to get up and walk around every few hours. That is very important. You wont want to but you must!!! It helps promote blood flow and healing. I actually wore those old man socks to prevent calf blood clots. I forgot what they are called. I bought them at CVS.

My advice, if I may be so bold, is too adhere to the suggestions above

~AND~

Don't be afraid to pick up the phone and ask for help or raise a concern about something that may not feel right, or something seems out of place etc...

Your medicsal team has likely heard your concern before and won't be shocked, amused or judgemental. This procedure can cause anything from loose lime green diarhea, to nocturnal penile emmissions (always nice, yet troublesome when waking)

Good luck, and your welcome to ask me anything of me.you'd like during your recovery.
