groin hernia repair

My surgery was performed in Dec. o8. I am still having problems. I have been to a different doctor and both say I need pain management. I burn and sting all the time and fairly often, it's like a big knot comes up in my right side and I feel like I have catch inside. It takes days for it to go away. Each time I go to the doctor, he presses down on the incision sight and it's days before I get straightened out again.

I just had hernia repair surgery in July myself. Did you get the mesh repair, where they cover it up with a piece of material? I don't know how long it takes, but I have read that some people have reactions to the mesh, but not until the tissue has already grown around it. That is why I found a doctor who doesn't use the mesh method (unless its too severe to not use it).

You might look in to having it removed it it's still possible and have it repaired the old fashioned way, before they started using mesh. The doctor I used was in Las Vegas, and specializes in helping people that don't have insurance.

Did you start feeling the pain some time after you were "healed" from the surgery, or ever since? If it has been since the surgery, it may not have been attached properly or securely... if it was some time after the surgery, you may be reacting to the mesh...

I am going through the exact same thing. I had laporascopic left inguinal hernia surgery in December of 2008 with mesh. I was feeling fine until about 2months ago. I am in a lot of pain in the area where the mesh is. I am so frustrated. I am going back to the surgeon on Tuesday. I am going for a Pelvic CT Scan with Barium on Monday to see what is wrong. The pain is sharp and sudden and I also feel a decent size lump where the hernia was. If I press on my left pelvis I feel like I am stabbing my insides. I went back to my surgeon last month and he said it was just a groin pull. He was absolutely wrong. I knew he was wrong but I accepted what he said. Now I feel worse. Finally after I called his office yesterday and complained he took me serious. I am hoping and praying that the CT Scan will show something so he can fix it. This is torture!!!
I hope you feel better. Keep us updated and I will do the same.

I will soon be getting groin hernias (double) repaired in November, and also am going to go for the traditional non-mesh repair method. My surgeon told me that it's quite common to get discomfort with the mesh later on after everything has healed, especially for women. I can't say I'm too knowledgeable about the surgery itself since I am new to it and haven't had mine performed just yet. Was the hernia large? From what I understand, you kind of HAVE to use the mesh if the hernia is larger or you will just risk it occurring again. My hernias are smaller in size and not all that noticeable, so I am hoping the traditional surgery will go fine as long as I'm gentle with the area and careful afterwards.

I hope you are able to feel better soon! Cowpin8 is very helpful on the subject (responded to one of my questions). If you don't feel comfortable with the particular doctor, maybe you can get a second opinion elsewhere to make sure everything is okay.

I didnt make it for the Pelvic CT Scan today. I am going tomorrow and then straight to my surgeons office. I have to drink a LOT of Barium before the Pelvic CT Scan which means my surgeon is checking to see if my bowels (small or large Intestines) are possibly trapped in the mesh or titanium tacks he used. I am SOOOOOOOOOOO frustrated already!!!
Good Luck to all.
