I am on a GERD diet (as much as I can). Went out to eat at the casino with the folks and the only thing remotely close to what I can have on the GERD diet was a grilled cheese sandwich. I know that cheese and bread are not triggers for me (since I eat an English muffin with a slice of cheese and egg whites each morning, and I have made grilled cheese sandwiches with cooking spray but not butter). My thinking is that the heartburn was triggered from the butter used to make the grilled cheese... and I even took my second (of my third) dose of Pepcid about an hour before I ate. I sure would hate to think of how bad my heartburn would be without medicine to control it...

Grilled cheese in a restaurant has enormous quantities of butter. And melting the cheese and butter frees up the oils to wreak havoc in the stomach.

Nope, I can definitely see that being a problem.

The oddest of things happens to me too with my heartburn. Depending on where I get the grilled cheese, I can either be fine or have ALL kinRAB of problems! I agree that it may of been the butter or maybe it was just some really rich cheese.

When I make a grilled cheese at home, I go light on the cheese and I don't have butter. Maybe next time you can say LIGHT on the butter and LIGHT on the cheese:)

Good Luck
