Green transportation- bike, skates, or skateboard?

bike would probably be the fastest...and smoothest ride. Skateboarding probably wouldn't be too bad, but much bumpier on bad roads and stuff. Skates would take to long because you have to get them on and off and all that jazz :)
 
What is the most practical way to travel for a college student? I usually run if it is less than a mile or two. If it is longer, I take the bus or metro. What method of transportation is the fastest if the distance is too long to run, but I don't feel like waiting for the bus?
