Green algae is taking over my fish tank?

I have never had a problem with algae really and all my levels test good. I have a 55 gallon salt water tank with a marineland magnum 350 filter and a protein skimmer. All of a sudden 2 weeks ago started ridiculous amounts of green algae in my tank. All over the glass and when I clean the glass it just makes the water cloudy and green. I have snails, sand sifting stars and hermits so can anyone tell me what the problem is? It is NOT green hair algae and it is not even really on my rocks. It just acquires a thick coat on my glass everyday.

i am totally clueless but the only thing i can think of is it has to have a source so even though this will probably bend your back out of shape for a long time but take out about 50%-60% of the water and replace it with treated fresh water and look for any possible sources
