Greatest Civilization Ever: Japan?

We are doing a greatest civilization ever debate in my social studies class. I picked Japan and is there anything about Japan that would make it the greatest civilization ever? Also I am going against Mongolia so anything bad about them would help.

Japan even at it's peak can never compare to the glory and sheer territory of the Mongol empire.

The Mongols even mounted expeditions against Japan. Japan has never mounted expeditions against the Mongols.

Are you loony or something? You should have chosen some other civilization: like China or India.

Modern Japan is way more advanced than modern Mongolia.
And the Japanese make anime' nuff said.
