Great tip for front fender rail removal

Well I tried and tried and couldn't get those damn tabs bent up. Thought I was gonna have to drop the wheel to get it off. So I was at the dealer today and was talking to the service manager. Told him what I was going to be doing. He gave me a bit of advice. Gator Grip Socket. I was like yeah right. That thing is snake oil. He said he has removed many a fender with it with ease. Apparently it will grab the area of the bolt above the bent tabs enough to turn it. And while turning it will naturally bend the tabs away with it. So skeptical me went by and plopped down ten bucks with not much hope of success. Well I was wrong. It gripped the head of the bold and I gave it a twist and a few turns and the tabs bent right away which allowed me to get a normal socket on. When I got everything done and got the bolts snug back down I reached in with a pair of channel locks and bent the tabs back down. Success and a much cleaner look.

Yea, I growled at them babies a while myself. I heated up and bent the last inch of a long narrow screwdriver and came in from the other side of the wheel. Your method sure sounds a lot less frustrating.

Question. It looks like the Gator Grip is a socket type tool. How do you fit the Gator Grip socket between the tire and the nut?? There just is not enough room.
