Women in the Great Gatsby are dependent on wealth and social approval to assure their happiness- not necessarily men. However, because it was difficult for women of the era to provide an income of their own, they used men to generate this happiness. Therefore, women were dependent on men but only because of societies’ stereotypes and social structure disallowed them from acquiring a substantial income by their own accord, although they did want independence.

This is what I think about the great gatsby but I'm having trouble finding some strong points towards it and evidence in the text. Please help!
