Gran turismo ps3, does it have a offline mulitplayer mode?

hi, i am about to buy the gran turismo ps3 pack from costco, it comes with 2 controllers, so i thought you can play it with 2 controllers and a splitted screen, but i checked online, but i cant find out if it is an offline multiplayer game

if not, why do they give us 2 controllers

also, what are good multiplayer games for the ps3
