Gran turismo 4 error on car select menu?

when i go inot the car select menu on gt4 ps2 it is all fine. but when i select a car make eg. audi the screen goes black and never comes back on. the music is still playing in the backround but the cars never come up. this has happened 2 times. i bought the game alst year and it failed like this. and i bought it a month ago agaian and it has failed the same way. what do i do!
 
from the looks of it, it might be your ps2. also check the disc to make sure its not scratched or dirty. If thats fine, get a different racing game.
