GPS update disk for a 2007 Lexus?

Question... my husband and i have a Lexus and after bringing it in for a recent service we inquired about an update for our GPS (there are several streets even very near our home that do not appear) they said it would be over $300... a brand new one is less than that... it didn't make sense. hs anyone had a similar problem or can you offer any suggestions?
 
That sounds expensive to me. I can buy a new DVD map for my 2006 Audi for $200 made by Navteq, they make most DVD maps for Factory installed Nav systems. Is it DVD driven or is it a whole software update? I guess once you figure that out, it may explain the cost.
