gout attacks all over

My husband has been going through so called diagnosed gout attacks for more than a year. Every specialist you can think of has a different medication and reason for the attacks. We are waiting for results of a renal nuclear scan to see if there is any kidney malfunction. I dont know how that is related to gout. At any rate he has been taking naprosen and colchicine. Does nothing. Used to but has stopped working. Allpurinol is the new med now. I am wondering just how long that takes to have an effect. It attacks all different parts of his body. Any joint he has it has been there one time or another. Wondering if anyone has similar experience or answers.

Welcome, Salmil . . . I am not sure about medications but having had both a grandmother and an older friend with gout, they were both advised to cut back on salt and cut out organ meats (liver, kidney, heart).

Not sure if your doctor has advised you on that or not, but if not, you might want to try that to see if it helps.

I too, have experienced gout, due to side effects of kidney failure. No one knows the shear pain gout causes, and I would not wish it on anyone. Bless you for being so supportive.

I have been on allopurinol (100mg) since my last attack, which is about a year ago. I am happy to report no more attacks since the allopurinol. I am under the care of a nephrologisit (kidney specialist) and he is the one who manages my kidney function. I have lost 75% kidney function due to malignant hypertention, and the gout is a side effect of that kidney damage. I am on quite a few meds that protect my kidneys, heart, brain and eyes, and quite incredibly all those organs have improved greatly in 5 years time.

I am so sorry for your husbands pain...God Bless...
