Got the Re-registration blues!

Tonight for the second time since buying my T5 I've spent the evening re-entering all my registration codes and preference information. It was wiped out in an earlier crash. Botzam backup failed me completely (is there a reliable backup application for T5?).

My main question is, where are registration codes and preference data held? If I knew which files to selectively restore from backup I might save myself a lot of time.

Any ideas anyone?

Not sure what you are refering to in the registration information. Can you explain further? Once you have registered with PalmOne you don't have to do it again.

Now for your T5. I am an user. I guess Moose Man and I are what you could say the test pilots here for the T5. I absolutely understand having to reload from a hard set (I think that is what you did). The T5 is great in many many ways. Unfortunately it is not perfect. I have had to hard set several times, I have had to soft set MANY times. That is why it is so very important to have a decent backup utlility.

Interestingly I have been looking for a backup utility that works without an error message. So far my safari into the jungle of backup utilities that work for me has been elusive.

I am going to check out Botzam backup and see if I can find my Dr. Livingston backup utlity that works for me.

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions.

CarolCasey - My problem is that on two occasions now my T5 has done a spontaneous soft reset, both times when I was uninstalling some trial software. The effect was to wipe out all of my settings (time, language, home city etc) as well as all of my software registration codes. This meant a time consuming process of going through all my applications re-keying the registration codes and, in many cases, having to setup all my personal settings again as in ZLauncher and DateBk5.

Telyx - This sounds like the answer to my problems, but does the Saved Preferences.prc file hold registration codes for 3rd party software or just the device preference settings?

TungstenEguy - I refer you to my original message.

I've now installed BackupBuddy VFS v3.1. I'll see how this does!

as someone said earlier, they are generally in saved prefs. Loss/corruption of this file has been reported for T5 and LifeDrive...why? wel who konows at this point but NVFS related for sure. Make a backup of this file (jezz, just copy it to the SD using FileZ for example) lest this evil strikes thee again...good luck!

Saved Preferences contains registration codes for third-party apps, device settings/preferences, PIM app categories, and (if you use VersaMail) saved e-mails. It's a real Swiss Army Knife of a file.
