Hi - My friend and I went down the Cape on Saturday and something that buzzed flew in the car and stung my finger. I didn't see the stinger, but it stung wicked bad. Its 3 days later and now it itches sooo much, and hurts to scratch. Does that mean the stinger is still in there?

Is there something I should be doing? Can't work too well with it this way....!! Pleas any help would be appreciated..... Thank You! Sherbear38

Is the place where you got bit swollen and red? can you see where you got bit? Does it look like the stinger might still be in there? You can try a hot compress, like a hot wash cloth folded and put over the bite and see if that doesn't bring you some relief. If the stinger were still in there it would probably welt up so that you could lance it and get it out.

In the mean time you can take an antihistamine to help with the itching. Hot compresses with help dissapate the itching.

Hi Ibake&pray - Yes, the top of the finger is swollen and red with a tiny white welt.
Can't see the stinger, but sure feels like its in there!! Thanks for responding. I'll try a zyrtec and the hot compress!! Thank you! Sherbear38

Apply Benedryl Gel or Spray on the place. This will relieve the itching.

Like others have mentioned, look for the stinger.

Baking soda made into a paste using a little water will help neutralize the sting.

Hi. Thanks you both for your responses. I remember my mother used Baking Soda when I was about 4 or 5 yrs old and had stepped in a bees nest. Does this maybe help to get the stinger out? Thanks again for you responses! Sherbear38

One thing you could do to help get the stinger out, put some elmers glue or any white glue on the spot, blow it dry, either in front of a fan, or with the cool setting on a blow dryer, peel it off when completely dry. Bee sting are so much worse in the late summer, they've been collecting pollen all summer and the sting tends to be more potent. If you Ever get another sting, use the flat surface of a credit card, or you finger nail sometimes works, scratch the stinger out, place a fresh cut end of an onion on the bite area, it draws out what ever venom is in the area. I've heard taping a penny to the area helps, sound kind of wife tailish but I've heard it works. Suppose to feel relief after about 20min. Must be some metallic combination of the penny.
