Got my N73 running Music Edition firmware using NSU!!!

How To: Update Original Nokia N73 Firmware to Music Edition
May help people searching the how-to here on hofo and google. Gathered from reading posts here and other sites.

I'm having troubles with residual RAM, i guess would be the best description. The longer I leave the phone on, the less and less RAM I'm left with with nothing else running (or at least SHOWING running).

From a fresh boot, after using Handy Taskman to kill the Music App, I have 16.7MB of RAM. As I open and close programs and just go through my day, by the end, I'm usually only left with 7-9MB, and that's after using Handy Taskman to kill any showing open apps. Anyone else experiencing this?

Unfortunately, I'm having the same problem on N73 (not ME edition). On clean boot I am at 19.9MB w/ Handy Taskman, but as I go throughout the day, just as you've said, I drop to about 10MB.

I noticed this problem both with the previous firmware and the newest one that came out a few wks ago.

Have you guys tried the following to see if one can exit the music player (make it stop from always running).

Go to Equalizer....then options...then EXIT.

Does that exit the player 100%?

Maybe, but there needs to be a way (other than power-cycling) to clear out some of these residual tasks that are hoggin up my RAM. I mean, that's not a little bit. Dropping from 16MB to 7MB is a BIG difference, IMO.

Thanks. Quite honestly, if you don't use the Music Player, or don't really intend to, I'd just sit it out. But then again, I'm VERY particular about settings and how my menu is setup, and I have ALOT of 3rd party programs, so anytime I update Firmware or do a hard reset, it's another hour to 2 hours of just fiddling with my phone to get it back how I like it.

That being said, I like the new music player ALOT. Enough, even, to finally prod myself to get rid of iTunes and switch back to Winamp so that hopefully Album Art and my tags will transfer appropriately. iTunes just hates life, I think.

The visualizations are NICE, though, IMO.

I agree.....im hoping that the n95 will finally be good enough to rid myself of this fn ipod/itunes curse. Ive got sooo much $$$ invested in encrypted itunes it makes me sick.

.....and Darla! Holy mother does your site push my E61 to the limits. It takes forever for it to load, even with wi-fi....worth it though once it does. Ive got your site as one of my three tabs on mozilla. Hofo of course, e-series blog (for now), and your site (you should be honered! )...jkng!

Actually I think that Darla's site renders great on my N73 with the Web browser. When I click to read a link through Google's Mobile Reader it always pulls up really nicely.

I don't think I'll ever be able to fully replace my iPod until I can get a phone with at least a 30gb HDD.

So I think I figured out that Widsets is causing my memory issues. When running it, I drop VERY quickly to 4-5MB of RAM, and when exit, i only bump back up to around 6-7. Hmmm..

this has been working for me with outlook since the first firmware.

on a side note, those afraid of losing space, you can get over 6mb back and get up to 40mb of user ram by using a third party file browser and going to C:\DATA\SOUNDS\DIGITAL and removing the In_My_Heart.dcf file (that's a free song that they give you). hopefully this isn't a repost, but i didn't remember seeing this posted anywhere else

Lol. That's kinda sad. Honestly I've got too much crap on my phone anyhow. I was writing up software reviews and so installed all kindsa crap on my phone for screenshots and whatnot and just haven't gone through and cleared them out. No telling what's auto-starting, other than of course the music app.
