Got my AT&T letter...

I got my AT&T letter last week. It basically says we keep our same rates, same plans, etc etc and that we will need new GSM phones and we will be given an free new phone in the next few weeks that is comparable to our current phone.

I just got my Alltel HTC Hero a couple of months ago, but it looks like as best as I can tell to be comparable to the AT&T HTC Aria.

which state are you currently in? anywho I heard you will be given to choose three options so hopefully they will let you get the Samsung captivate.

so i have the LG Triton which is on the smartphone plan, would this mean i could get a smart phone on AT&T for free? i don't understand the "comparable" phone thing so much I guess...

I don't work for Alltel and have no inside knowledge but I'd be SHOCKED if anything better than the Aria, like the Captivate, was considered as an equivalent for the Hero. Remember, they're not necessarily gonna be Android phones. I could see some Windows Mobile crud offered. My guess is that the best choice we'll have will be the Aria. That's purely an educated guess of course, no inside knowledge.

I wonder if the timing of these letters mean anything about when that market is getting changed? Or maybe they sending everyone's all at once..

I got mine also in South Dakota. They didn't specify a date in the letter, just said it was "coming soon" and that a date will be announced later. I think they're just making contact with everyone.

Every customer was sent the letter about the change to AT&T and that it was coming soon. Handset preselection starts in the next 60 days and will run for 30-120 days depending on the market.
