Got good grades but don't want to go to a stressful university?

I got 4 A's at a-level so I could really apply anywhere, but I want a different experience from the one I had at my school, as it was a bit of a pressure-cooker. People are telling me I should apply to Cambridge for natural sciences, but I already had a breakdown last year which led to a suicide attempt, and I have bipolar disorder. I know oxbridge has a reputation for being stressful, but I don't want to disappoint people by not applying :(

The application process is such a saga and I guess if I got in I would go, I just don't know if it is really so much better than everywhere else.
I think I want to go somewhere low key and maybe oxbridge for second degree.

Why is oxbridge considered to be so far superior?

I'm not sure that you should be thinking of what uni to study at but perhaps what subject you choose, you should choose a subject which you will enjoy, this will enrich your life and take the stress out of working if you enjoy what you are studying. You do not have to choose a typically academic subject, if you are creative you could choose an art related subject, if you are a people person you could study for social work etc. Dont let anyone pressure you in your choice, I dont think you should think of "what will get me the best job at the end" because if you are not passionate about the subject you could never gain a fulfilling career, happiness and a stress free life comes from following YOUR dreams :o)

Maybe a gap year would be a good move so you can spend some time getting to know yourself and learning what your dreams are.

Best of luck to you
