Gorgeous freshwater fish?

So,I'm a little scared to start a salt water tank. The whole idea with the maintenance and costs is a bit overwhelming. I've taken care of freshwater fish for about 2 years now and am thinking about sticking with them. Anyone know some types of freshwater fish that are beautiful, colorful, and not tiny( 4-5 inches preferable)?
 
My parrot cichlids are big bright and comical...and fiesty.

boseman rainbowfish are perfect

Edit: bettas can go with other fish and nemo is a clown fish which is saltwater.
 
Beta fish are gorgeous, they're really bright and colorful. Except you have to leave them in their tank alone, they can't be with other fish or they'll kill them.
