
CALIFORNIA – Google (GOOG), thru the Project Glass Google+ account post, announced on June 1 that the company will not approve a face recognition application for Google Glass, or maybe not in the next few weeks, or months.
Detractors of Google Glass has made a huge noise about the device’s privacy, pointing out that owners of the camera-equipped spectacles can snap photos with just a simple wink of an eye at just about any place, anytime — inclulding locker rooms and public restrooms.
According to Google, many people have aired out their interest as well as worry on the possibility of the Glass having a facial-recognition capability.
The company also added that as it has bared for many years, they will not integrate any facial-recognition application to their gadgets until they come up with a convincing privacy protection to address consumers’ concerns.
But the company is also being wary about possible bans from some states and it is playing its cards well. Some states are actually looking into prohibiting the use of the Glass while driving and casinos are getting jittery about the gadget being used to cheat on poker and other games.
However, even with restrictions being set in place, there will surely be jail-broken gadgets that hackers will take advantage on, and install their own software.
The company itself has provided instructions on how the Glass can be hacked, but that will nullify warranty for the gadget.
Developers and owners of Google Glass who want the facial-recognition software should be patient as the company bared that it will not approve the system, at least not immediately, which means that it may at some point in time.
