Google Chrome messing with the hard disk?

Its probably just a coincidence but everytime I start using google chrome extensively, my hard disk seems to suffer.
The first time I did this on my year old laptop, I got the blue screen of death a couple of times. This was resolved when I stopped using chrome. The next time I started using it again, the same thing happened. The last time I used google chrome for 2 days, my hard disk crashed and I had to get a new one.
Now I am just afraid to use chrome and am using safari on windows 7 instead.
Could chrome be possibly messing up my hard disk?
The thing is, I use all my other browsers just as much including opera, safari and firefox and none of those seem to cause any issues. So I know its not that my computer can't handle the extensive usage but something about the software I am using. Its just that it seems absurd that a web browser would actually mess with my hard disk.
